Too many layers of woke

I enjoyed this story a lot, mostly for the rich, savory hypocrisy. Apparently the whack-job mayor of NYC , DE Blasio, instituted rather draconian vax passport restrictions for many businesses. They thus are required to ask patrons for ‘their papers’ upon entry. I assume the primary motivation was to stick it to those Neanderthal Trump voters visiting from out of town.

Enter a party of African-American visitors from Texas. As an aside, I’ve seen reports that anywhere from 55–70% of African-American NYC citizens are unvaccinated. So… that seems like it implies a roughly 2/3 move towards defacto racial segregation of businesses. Is Mr. DE Blasio sure that this is what he wants? Anyway, the first to arrive at some restaurant were the two women in the party; the two men were apparently meeting them there. It sounds like they were okay (maybe not thrilled, but accepting) of showing their vax-status to the restaurant staff. They got seated. Then the guys arrived. They did not have their proof of vaccination handy (or weren’t vax-ed? It was unclear) and so were denied seating. At this point, things escalated and at least one of the women got into some sort of physical altercation with the waitress. I think the police were summoned, possibly an arrest was made, and things got sorted out in some sub-optimal fashion.

Fast forward a few days, and now there is (or was) a BLM protest at said restaurant (an Italian place, I think). The claim is racial discrimination. I feel sorry for the business, though, as it wasn’t their idea to hassle their patrons over vax cards. That’s on the city government. Oh, and the waitress who was assaulted was, it turns out, Asian. #StopAsianHate anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I just really enjoy how this has devolved into a sort of Woke Olympics to see whose virtue-signaling wins out…
