The "British" vs. "Bri'ish" thing, I get. Maybe the term you referenced (elision) is what it is called in N-Am. It seems like a fairly recent phenomenon, though. I just seem to encounter more people who talk this way now than a decade or two previously. I just sort of bugs me.
