It’s right there in the name…

Minimal Standards

I’ve just been mildly confused by this for a long time, so I have to ask: why is ‘TripAdvisor’ so averse to rating things dealing with airports?

I’ve been posting reviews to Yelp for quite a while. I’ve also posted the same reviews to TripAdvisor for almost as long. I’ve noticed something odd: if I want to rate, say, a rental car agency, I can do so on Yelp but I *cannot* do so on TripAdvisor. Why? Doesn’t it seem like rental cars would be integral to many peoples’ trips? I’ve found similar restrictions on things like rating an airport, or a terminal, or a restaurant in a terminal…

It doesn’t really affect me. I can post a review elsewhere. And I would not be surprised if TripAdvisor didn’t accept reviews on, say, oil change establishments (hey — getting your oil changed as part of a ‘trip’ is at best an outlier…). But rental cars? Seriously?

It’s their site and they can run it however they see fit, but I’m still confused.
